Position Summary

The Puppy Development Coordinator will assist the Puppy Department Director in carrying out the duties and responsibilities formulated by the Director of Training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This individual will assume full responsibility for the operation of the puppy department in the absence of the Puppy Department Director.  Includes all duties listed for the Puppy Department Director.  The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring the health and wellbeing of puppies by performing daily cleaning processes and enrichment activities.

  • Clearly and effectively communicating organizational objectives, both in writing and verbally, to donors, volunteers, and coworkers.

  • Under the direction of the Puppy Department Director, conduct obedience classes for volunteer raisers.

  • Ensuring compliance with all government and membership organizations.

  • Keep thorough and accurate documentation of all communications and business conducted on behalf of the department and/or the organization.

  • Operate the department within the budget approved by the Executive Director and the Director of Training.

  • Foster on-going and long-term relationships with potential and current volunteers.

  • Provide support to volunteers during the puppy raising process, including; providing guidance, answering questions, processing payment for medical services, providing supplies, and recommending medical intervention when advised.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High School degree required, post-secondary education preferred.

  • Sensitivity to and ability to work around individuals who are visually impaired and service dogs – Guide Dogs.

  • Demonstrate the highest levels of honesty and integrity, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all duties.

  • Display a professional manner and positive behavior to all individuals encountered during work.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Pilot Dog’s insurance company.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks with only general supervision.

  • Ability to recognize and report maintenance issues and safety hazards.

  • Ability to communicate via voice mail and e-mail.

  • Ability to follow and adhere to policies and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
